People

Like I mentioned in my last post, I’m trying to take pictures of “real” people. These images are still candids; I don’t talk to these people (before I take the picture).

This image was taken in a part of Amsterdam I never have been before. Well, I was there once before but I didn’t go any further than the “Muiderpoort” train station. This time I had a purpose for being there: I wanted to return the keys of my studio to the landlord. (Yes, I don’t have the luxury of having a studio in Amsterdam anymore. I will write about this in a future post).

This is the so called “Indische buurt” and this image is made at the tram stop “Javaplein”. It was a Sunday morning and the streets were almost empty. I’m used to lots of tourists in Amsterdam, at any time, day or night. Here I saw just one family that, most probably, was on holiday. For the rest only locals. Felt like a real relieve to me.

The man is, obviously, waiting on the street-car. Before this moment I took a few pictures of him walking to the bench. He walked calm, well dressed, towards the bench. Despite the fact he needed the cane to walk his posture enforced having respect for this man. It came to me that he prepares everything he does very carefully and doesn’t make any mistakes in executing them. I’ve never seen a man before waiting with such dignity.
